Trial Advocacy Teams
Both Moot Court and Mock Trial, considered co-curricular activities, provide students with excellent opportunities to apply both the substantive knowledge and skills that they are acquiring in their courses.
The Moot Court students engage in legal research and writing, such as is taught in first-year and upper-level writing courses. Students also develop their abilities in advocacy, building upon what is taught in our skills curriculum. There is widespread support of our doctrinal classes in the various topics addressed in the Moot Court competitions in which we compete. Coastal Law has won national championships, national best brief awards and national best advocate awards in competitions related to constitutional law, corporate law, the law of evidence, minority rights law, sexual orientation law, sports law, civil procedure and animal law.
