Transfer and Visiting Applicants

Transferring In Applicants

Coastal Law admits transfer students during all three terms of enrollment.  Those students wishing to transfer must be in good academic standing at their current institution and must provide an updated transcript for review.  Students may be required to provide class descriptions to determine the eligibility of transfer credits.  Those students interested in transferring should follow the application process below.

Transferring Students Application Process

1. Please submit an application through the Law School Admission Council’s website for the term you are interested in beginning at http://www.lsac.org/.  We maintain only a Fall and Spring application on LSAC so contact the Admissions Office to determine which application you should admit.

2. Submit an official transcript and letter of standing to the Admissions Office (supplied by your current or previous law school).

3. The Admissions Committee will review the application materials and provide a decision.

4. Once the applicant is accepted, the Academic Dean will review the official transcript to determine transferable credits.

5. The Admissions Office will notify the applicant of the accepted transfer credits and advise the applicant of any required courses that will require completion.  The Admissions Office will then forward the application materials to the Registrar for the recording of the transfer credits on the official transcript and to assist with course scheduling.

6. Pay seat deposit – the student will pay seat deposit for their admitted term.

Degree Requirements

A candidate who has transferred from another law school must successfully complete at least sixty (60) credit hours at Florida Coastal, attain a cumulative grade point average of 2.00 or better for at least ninety (90) credit hours, complete all required courses or their substantial equivalent, six (6) credit hours of experiential learning, and satisfy all other degree requirements.

The Academic Dean evaluates credits for courses completed at another ABA-approved law school on an individual basis. Only courses completed with a grade of “C” or better are transferable. FCSL will consider earned credits completed within the prior two academic years.  The Academic Dean will determine whether specific courses cover the material necessary to meet a graduation requirement at Florida Coastal.

Visiting Applicants

Florida Coastal School of Law may admit a few select students who desire to study at the Law School for a semester or a year, but who will receive their degrees from their home law schools. Such students will be admitted only after completion of at least one year of satisfactory academic work at another ABA-approved law school and must demonstrate compelling reasons for attending Florida Coastal School of Law as a visiting student.
