The Center for Professional Development (CPD) partners with each student in their professional transformation into the legal field. Our office is committed to helping students plan and implement their individual job search efforts. CPD is available to guide students with both online and office resources. The office offers multiple services to allow students to learn about the various career options, develop professional skills, and acquire the experience needed to best position themselves for employment post-graduation.
The CPD actively engages with local and national employers to broaden their recruitment efforts with Florida Coastal School of Law.
Office Hours | Location | Contact Us
The CPD is located in Room #286, and is open 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Monday through Friday. Appointments can be made, and questions answered, by contacting Megan Schade at firstname.lastname@example.org or at 904-516-8814. You can also schedule an individual appointment here. Appointments are available after 5:00 PM upon request and based on availability.
Individual Career Counseling
The CPD provides personal career counseling to prepare students and alumni for the job market and to help them develop a career focus. We strongly encourage you to make an individual appointment so we can help you determine your career interests, map out job search strategies, practice interviewing techniques, and further develop the professional skils you need in the legal community. In preparation for any individual meetings, please submit a small survey to our office here.
On Campus Interview (OCI) and Resume Collection
We offer OCIs year round to accommodate the diverse hiring needs of the many different types of legal employers whether they are large firms, solo practitioners, public defenders' offices, or various branches of the JAG program. Employers across the nation are invited to come on campus and interview students. Typically, smaller employers typically conduct interviews in their own offices. Some employers ask the CPD to collect and forward resumes to them, while others prefer that students send their resumes directly.
We maintain current job postings for summer, academic year, and post-graduate employment opportunities. We share post-graduate employment opportunities with over 100 other law schools through the Intercollegiate Job Bank. Reach out to Megan Schade for more information or visit our current Job Postings for Students.
Interested in Hiring a Coastal Law Student or Graduate?
One of the major functions of the CPD is to bring employers, students, and alumni together. Help your employer recruit students and alumni by posting a position (academic-year, summer, or permanent) or by participating in our OCI program.
If you are an employer and would like to post job openings for your firm or organization for our current students, please email details to Megan Schade at email@example.com. If you are interested in posting a job on our alumni site please email details to Karen Eubanks in our Alumni Office at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Speaking with alumni offers students a fantastic opportunity to connect with graduates who practice in the geographic areas in which they are interested. Many graduates of Coastal Law are happy to speak with current students about their career paths. After you have met with a CPD Advisor, our Alumni Office is available to work directly with you to facilitate connections with the vast network of Coastal Law alumni located throughout the country.
