Moot Court Successes

Congratulations to the Florida Coastal School of Law students who participated in Moot Court competitions this weekend.

First, two teams traveled to the Gabrielli National Family Law Competition at Albany Law School in New York, with notable results. The team of Daniela Carcamo, Vilerka Bilbao, and Robert Gail advanced all the way into the final round of the competition, where they were eliminated in a very close shootout with Cleveland-Marshall.  The judges were deliberating almost 30 minutes before they finally had to pick a winner!  Also, Vilerka was named Best Oralist for the entire competition, and that team’s brief scored as the 2nd Best Brief for the competition. Further, the team of LaTasha Lee, Jhonatas Porcides, and Cory Van Arnum also met with great success, advancing into the quarterfinal round before being eliminated by a team from Mississippi.  These teams were expertly managed by Chelsea James.

Second, the team of Ciera Gainey, Ashley Venegas, and Minerva Poblet—fresh off their outstanding performance in the regional Miami competition a few weeks ago—traveled to New York City to compete in one of the largest and most competitive events of the year—the Duberstein National Bankruptcy Law Competition. Although they (along with 29 other teams) did not advance, the judges lauded their performance in the preliminary rounds.  They were managed by Kathryn Stanfill.
