Caitlin Russell is a native of Jacksonville and is a “non-traditional” law school student.
With the goal of obtaining a teaching degree, Caitlin attended FSU, but while working as a legal assistant in a local firm, she realized her passion for the law. Four years after earning her undergraduate degree, she entered Coastal Law in Fall, 2014.
Having immediate family in the Jacksonville area, Caitlin had attended Accepted Students Day at Coastal Law and immediately felt at home. She was welcomed by the staff and administration and was also awarded a scholarship to attend. She entered Coastal Law with the class of 2017.
Caitlin is “mommy” to two beautiful girls. When she started classes at Coastal Law, the youngest was one year old, and getting back to the rigors of school and study was challenging.
“Balancing teething and a 15-credit course load was extremely stressful. After learning how to manage my time more efficiently, through the help of Academic Success, I was able to achieve a spot in the top 8% of my class by the end of my first semester. Each semester since has been a continuation of adjusting schedules and continuing to hone time management,” says Caitlin.
During her legal education at Coastal Law, Caitlin has grown close with the administration and professors and has focused on her involvement with the school and the legal community. She believes her involvement in various school activities has allowed her to have a multitude of school, networking and employment opportunities.
Some of these activities include:
· Managing Editor of Florida Coastal Law Review
· Advocate on Florida Coastal School of Law Mock Trial Team
· Vice Director of FCSL Student Ambassadors
· 3L Honor Council Member
· Student Representative for the Florida Coastal School of Law Transition Team
· Phi Delta Phi International Legal Honor Society
· Student Member of E. Robert Williams American Inn of Court
· Law Clerk at Brennan, Manna & Diamond
· Student Member, JWLA
· Committee Member for Jacksonville Bar Association's Young Lawyers Section
Caitlin is currently working as a law clerk for Brennan, Manna & Diamond (Civil Litigation) in Jacksonville, doing research and learning how to “lawyer properly.” She plans to remain in Jacksonville and to continue to be involved with the school and the community, where she hopes to serve both.
In her "spare” time, Caitlin and her girls love to do zoo visits, find seashells and sharks teeth at the beach, and have playdates at the park.
She is looking forward to her graduation in May and to realize the culmination of all her efforts to earn a Juris Doctor at Coastal Law!
