The Office of Student Affairs launched the Student Leadership Development Program on July 29th and July 30th, 2016. This initiative brought together the Student Bar Association (SBA) – Executive Board, the Student Ambassadors leadership, and some leaders of various student organizations across the school. The goal was to provide leadership tools that will enable student leaders to be effective in their various organizations at Coastal Law.
The session was in the form of a workshop/retreat that focused on self-awareness, mindfulness, communication techniques, diversity and perceptions, emotional intelligence (EQ), personality traits, conflict resolution and contingency leadership. Thought leaders from the community, which included Dr. Brian Iannucci, an author and leadership guru, Stefano Portigliatti, MBA, JD, a certified master coach and human resource trainer and subject matter experts within Coastal – Dr. Tammy Hodo, Dr. Susie Pontiff-Stringer and Mary Schilpp, LMHC, presented during the session. The keynote speaker for the program was the Honorable Judge Angela Cox, Circuit Court Judge in Jacksonville, Fl., who shared her perspective on professionalism and what it means to be a leader of the law.
The student leaders left the workshop feeling equipped and ready to utilize the knowledge and skills they have acquired not only in their various organizations and teams, but as life lessons as well. This was the inaugural event and Student Affairs is looking forward to future sessions throughout the school year.
