How to Become a Client of the Coastal Law ClinicsFlorida Coastal School of Law (Coastal Law) located in Jacksonville, Florida, provides a unique skills-based, student-centered education. Its programs are designed to advance students’ success in law school, on the bar exam, and in their careers. Named one of National Jurist Magazine’s best law schools for providing students practical training in 2015 with a grade of A+, the school’s curriculum focuses on experiential education: the hands-on learning needed to equip graduates with the leadership, management, and interpersonal skills that are necessary for career success.
As part of Coastal Law’s experiential learning program, there are numerous rotating in-house and practitioner clinics serving indigent clients in need of legal services in Jacksonville. In all of the in-house clinics, students receive guidance and supervision from a full-time faculty member who is a member of the Florida Bar.
Coastal Law’s in-house clinics represent clients in need of legal services in the following areas:
- Family Law
- Immigrant and Human Rights (only represents children and victims of crime)
The Practitioner Clinics serve clients in the following areas with services varying by semester. These clinics typically accept cases referred from other organizations:
- Wills, Estates, & Trust
- Interviewing & Counseling
- Seal and Expunge
- Florida Appellate Law
- Naturalization Law
- Veteran's Benefits
- Child Advocacy and Dependency
- Public Interest Research Clinic
How Do I Become a Clinic Client?
Florida Coastal ’s legal clinics, other than the Business and Entrepreneurial Law clinic, represent indigent clients who are referred from various legal, business and social service agencies or government offices in Jacksonville. Typically clients will need to be referred from an organization where they are receiving services. Immigrant and Human Rights Clinic
Florida Coastal’ s Immigrant and Human Rights clinic offers free legal representation to indigent immigrants in removal proceedings and in applications for immigration benefits. Currently the clinic is focused on serving children seeking asylum and victims of violent crime. The clinic only accepts cases referred from social and legal service agencies.
