Disparities still exist in PSU athletics

A recent U.S. Dept. of Education study revealed that sports opportunities for men are still greater than women at Penn State University.

Voices of Central Pennsylvania has the story, which quotes Professor Nancy Hogshead-Makar:

Contributing to the wealth of the football program, among others, is the ability to build a stadium with tax-free bonds, sell tickets and solicit donations all tax free, and not pay athletes a salary, said Nancy Hogshead-Makar of the Women’s Sports Foundation.

“The reason why any sports program is able to make dime one is because they’re part of education, she said. “And if they are, then girls should have the same opportunities.”
