Good Luck on the Bar!

If you are taking the Florida Bar, be sure to look for members of the CPD inside the convention center. Lisa Crouch and Lauren Avila will be  handing out granola bars and collecting any items you wish to leave with them (ex: phone, flashcards) for pickup after the exam

Hispanic National Bar Association’s (HNBA) Annual Convention and Career Fair

The HNBA invites you to participate in the HNBA Career Fair, largest career fair for Hispanic law students and legal professionals, at the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) Annual Convention on Friday, September 12 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The 2014 HNBA Convention will be held September 10 – 13, 2014 at the Renaissance Downtown Hotel in Washington, DC. The event will give you access to government agencies, law firms, and leaders of industry. It is a fantastic networking opportunity.

Students can register for the career fair by purchasing a Friday pass for only $50.00.  The Friday pass also allows students to attend the myriad of events happening that day, as well as the career fair.  The registration page is at

Stop by the library and read one of our new books!

We have new books in the library on a wide range of topics such as, property law, administrative law, ethics, business writing, free speech, taxation, ADR and the Mexican legal system!  Some of these books are in the New Book display on the third floor of the library. If you cannot find them there, check the catalog to see if they are shelved in another location or have been checked out already.

D.W. Perkins Bar Scholarship Application

D.W. Perkins Bar Association, Inc. is seeking applicants for its bar preparation scholarships. The Association provides scholarships to offset bar examination preparation expenses for students who have a financial need and demonstrate a commitment to excellence. Applicants must be recent graduates or third year law students who are scheduled to take the Florida Bar Examination in July 2014 or February 2015. Applicants must graduate from law school during the 2014 school year.

Career Services Has a New Name!

changeThe Career Services Department will now be known as the Center for Professional Development or CPD.  This is in line with the other consortium schools and better reflects the comprehensive nature of the work handled by our department at Coastal. The CPD prepares students for the world of legal work throughout the student’s academic career and beyond.

The 2015 Equal Justice Works Fellowship application will be open from July 7, 2014 to September 17, 2014.

The webinar will be held on Wednesday, May 21 at 2 pm.  

The Equal Justice Works Fellowship Program is very competitive, receiving hundreds of applications each year for approximately 60 fellowship slots. To be considered, you must be a qualified and passionate lawyer who has developed a new and innovative legal project that can impact lives and serve communities in desperate need of legal assistance. We will cover how to prepare and complete a successful application. This presentation is intended for law students and recent graduates interested in pursuing a public interest legal career as well as law school professionals who advise students on fellowship and other public interest career opportunities.

Depending on funding, EJW provides between 45-55 two-year fellowships annually. Southeastern Intellectual Property Job Fair

The Southeastern Intellectual Property Job Fair (SIPJF) is an initiative founded by the Intellectual Property Advisory Board, which is an alumni group associated with the Georgia State University College of Law. The fair is managed and executed by the Georgia State University College of Law Career Services Office. Many members of the Founders group are very active in Atlanta’s IP community, working in the city’s most well known companies and firms. SIPJF has been made possible by a joint effort of student volunteers, alumni, and the Georgia State University College of Law Career Services Office.Job Fair

SIPJF mainly targets fulfilling summer associate positions for 2015.  Consequently, participation is open to full-time and part-time students (from registered schools) who are classified as rising 2L or rising 3L students, who will return for classes for the Fall 2014 semester.
