Congratulations to three Moot Court teams that competed in the Elon National Moot Court Competition. Two teams reached the national semi-finals, and one team reached the quarter-finals.
Second-year Tillman Casper won the Best Advocate Award, surpassing nearly 100 law students from around the country for top honors. The team of Tillman Casper, Todd MacLeod and Justin Cormier reached the semi-finals, as did the team of Shakiva Ruff, Jenna Gailliard and Eugene Martell. The team of CJ Scott, Jessica DeSantis and Kristin Eshleman reached the quarter-finals. In addition, Eugene Martell won Best Brief, Third and Kristin Eshleman won Best Brief, Fourth. More than 30 schools competed in the competition.
The Coastal Law Mock Trial team had the opportunity this weekend to compete in the John Marshall ABA Criminal Justice Competition in Chicago. The team earned the invitation to this prestigious competition as a result of winning the Georgetown White Collar Crime Tournament last November.
In its first showing ever at this national competition, Florida Coastal beat Loyola, UNC and Baylor to advance to the semi-finals, and then lost narrowly to Chapman. The team thereby earned an automatic invitation back next year. Team members Rocco Carbone and Tenisia Burke both received awards for receiving a perfect score in the preliminary rounds. Other team members were Dagmawi Adane and Michael MacNamara. The team manager was Daniella DelVento and the coach was Coastal Law and mock trial alum, Janeen Mira.
