Our “Veterans Benefits Practitioner Clinic” is a skills development lab course that provides students with an opportunity to develop interviewing and counseling skills, collaborative team building skills, and advocacy writing skills in representing military veterans before the Department of Veteran’s Affairs (DVA). Specifically, the students assist disabled veterans in developing claims for compensation for submission to the DVA at the Decision Review Officer (DRO) level.

This clinical course is supplemented by a doctrinal course entitled “Veterans Administration Benefits,” which provides detailed coverage about the legal framework under VA programs, to include benefits associated with disability, pension, education, medical, home loan, and burial.

Coastal Law is continuing to expand its clinical offerings for military and veteran students as we partner with the internationally acclaimed “Wounded Warrior Project,” and several other private and public organizations in Jacksonville, to provide critical legal services to veterans and military families in the local community.
