One of the most active student groups on campus is the “Military Law Society” (MLS). This student-run and organized organization works each semester to promote awareness of the relationship between Military Law, Civilian Law and International Law. The group is open to every member of the Coastal Law student body and seeks to bring open discussion to all the issues that affect the military today.
Each semester, MLS sponsors speakers on topics of interest to military and veteran students. In the past, the group has brought in members of the JAG Corps to discuss life as a military attorney, as well as the application process for those interested in pursuing that career after graduation. MLS has also organized talks from community leaders working to help disabled veterans, and has sponsored panels on cutting-edge issues, such as the problem of sexual assault in the military.
The MLS seeks to represent the Florida Coastal community through its engagement with the local community including the military community. They host several fundraising events each year to raise money for valuable veteran causes. And the group sponsors annual field trips to view an actual court-martial at a local military installation.
