Student Services

Student Services, supervised by the Dean of Students and Multicultural Affairs, (Assistant Dean) serves as the primary focal point for addressing student needs, issues, and concerns and as a resource and referral officer for all such matters. The function includes representation and presentation of the students' perspectives to the Florida Coastal School of Law Community.

The office of student and multicultural affairs is designed and intended to work with all segments of the Florida Coastal School of Law community to help students develop through opportunities, advice, and assistance. That advice and assistance is addressed to a myriad of problems such as analysis of academic goals and priorities, coping with personal, adverse conditions that affect law school of problems, interpersonal relations with other students and faculty, help in coping with the economic hardships and sacrifices while in law school, identification of symptoms and traits that may require professional consultations, assistance in the settlement of organizational disputes, and the allocation of financial resources to student groups that may require such assistance in the implementation on their programs. There is often special support of new student organizations in their development of activities.

Support is provided to student organizations there are organized under the auspices of the Student Bar Association (SBA) as well as other special groups such as the Florida Coastal School Ambassadors and the Spousal Sport Group.

The division supports diversity programming, to inculcate appreciation for multiculturalism, assists with general and smaller student meetings for these purposes. Similarly, the academic and personal growth and development of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and under other under represented student groups is a concern of the student affairs department.

The administration's policy is to meet the requirements of section 504 of The Rehabilitation act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities act of 1990. The Assistant Dean implements that policy by the granting of accommodations and adjustments in the physical facilities where warranted.

There is a consistent commitment to guarding the integrity of the academic process and the behavioral standards of the institution. The Assistant Dean is, at the option of faculty and students involved in the earliest stages of alleged violations as a resource for advice and guidance.

The Assistant Dean participates in, or solely sponsors, diversity presentations, the annual law week program, and presentation of speakers on subjects of legal, national, and international concerns.

Finally, a rather unique policy provides for the bi-monthly conducting of a social event known as “Hot Dog Wednesday” that brings together students, faculty, and staff for the purpose of further stimulating a sense of community through congenial fraternization.
