What is Pro Bono?

  • Pro bono work is volunteer legal and non-legal work done without credit or compensation that law students perform to benefit individuals, groups or organizations whose resources are limited. This is your chance to make a difference!
  • We encourage each of you to participate in at least one pro bono experience during your law school career. You won't be sorry! Pro bono work not only benefits the community, but allows you to get the kind of hands-on experience and feedback that is difficult to find elsewhere.

The Many Benefits of Law Student Pro Bono
  • Whether you intend to pursue a career in the public or private sector you can reap the personal and professional rewards pro bono work has to offer.

Private Sector Students:
  • Pro bono enhances academic work and discussions by providing a practical context from which to approach coursework.
  • Provides an opportunity to acquire concrete legal experience.
  • Volunteers serve real community needs and experience a deep sense of personal satisfaction.

Public Interest Students:
  • Offers invaluable chance to network with attorneys and other students in your area of interest.
  • Develop familiarity with the public interest job market in your area of interest.
  • To be a viable candidate in the competitive public interest job market you must demonstrate a commitment to public interest work. Volunteering is an excellent way to do this.
