How do I setup my mobile device to sync with my Coastal Law email?

Warning

You are responsible for making sure you have the correct data plan added to your mobile plan. This is especially important to check before syncing anything with Coastal Law as syncing without a data plan in place can be very expensive and Coastal Law assumes no financial responsibilities in relation to this.

If you're using a Windows Mobile device to sync your Coastal Law email be aware that by doing so you are giving Coastal Law the ability to apply policies to your device. Such policies could include password requirements and any other future policies as deemed appropriate.

In accordance with other Computer Services policies, Coastal Law will not support your phone in any way. If you have any questions and/or problems syncing your Coastal Law email with your mobile device, you need to contact your mobile provider. Do NOT contact the HelpDesk for assistance with your mobile device.

Although this mobile service is being provided to you, ultimately it is your responsibility to use Outlook Web Access (OWA) to access your email if for some reason mobile access is unavailable.

Blackberry

As of the time of this writing, Blackberry does NOT support syncing with OWA 2007 which is the system Coastal Law utilizes. Therefore, Blackberry users will not be able to sync email with Coastal Law until an upgrade of Blackberry's system is done. No date is given by Blackberry as to when this will happen, but hopefully this should be in the near future.

Windows Mobile

For Windows Mobile users, you will need to configure ActiveSync on your device to directly connect with our Exchange server. You will be required to enter the information from the table above in order to set up this connection. Unlike Blackberry users, you actually have the ability to sync not only email, but your contacts, calendar, and notes as well if you choose to do so.

As mentioned previously, by creating this direct connection with our Exchange server your device can have policies created by Coastal Law applied to your device whether you want them to or not. Currently we have no policies in place, such as a password requirement, but this could change in the future.

A nice feature of directly connecting to our Exchange server is that if for some reason your phone is lost or stolen, you can log in to OWA to remotely wipe your device. The main benefit of this is so that no one can access any personal information you may have on your mobile device after it is wiped. Further instructions on how to do this will soon be posted to this FAQ so check back soon.

Other Mobile Devices

Mobile syncing is only for Blackberry and Windows Mobile users. If you have a "regular" mobile phone you will not be able to sync your Coastal Law email with your phone.

If you have any doubts as to what type of mobile device you are using please contact your mobile provider for support or consult your mobile device's manual.
