Matthew Bender - Authority On-Demand

Authority On-Demand is a web-based collection of Matthew Bender treatises, arranged in topical libraries. Matthew Bender has been known in the legal field for years for their top quality treatises and formbooks on a variety of subjects. Those treatises and forms are now available via the Internet, in a user-friendly, easy to search format.

Authority On-Demand can be accessed through the Library's homepage: (http://www.fcsl.edu/ltc/). Click on the link for Research Links, then select Subscription Databases, then click on Matthew Bender-Authority on Demand. This is a subscription service, so access is limited to current Florida Coastal students, faculty, and staff with active computer accounts. You will be prompted for your FCSL user name and password. Follow the instructions to link to Authority On-Demand.

Once you have selected your library, a list of individual publications will appear. Or you can select the Browse Your Pubs option to the left which will give you an alphabetical listing of all publications available. When you have chosen a publication, the table of contents will appear, and a keyword search column will enable you to enter search criteria and maneuver within your research project.

Enter your keyword to search the entire publication, or highlight a chapter to restrict the search to that chapter.

  • View the results of your last search.
  • The Advanced Search allows you to limit your search.
  • You can search up to 3 publications within a library at the same time.
  • Select Other Pubs takes you back to your publications list.
  • View the Table of Contents as it relates to your search results.
  • Prev Hit, Next Hit, Prev Hit Doc, Next Hit Doc, Prev Doc, and Next Doc all help you move around within your search results.
  • Doc Reference reminds you what publication you are in!

If you would prefer to browse the publication you can move around the table of contents using the plus button. When the plus button is not displayed, you have reached the document level.

The information at the top of the screen helps you keep track of where you are. You can click on these to go back to the full chapter listing, the table of contents for the publication, or all the way back to the list of libraries.

Authority On-Demand is a new product, and as a new product, some functionality is still being developed. For example:

  • Some items which appear to be links, are not actually linked yet.
  • Sometimes if you click on a document, just the heading appears. Click on NEXT DOC to move forward to the text that follows.
  • Authority On-Demand is not very printer-friendly. If you wish to print, you can use the browser's Print button. Be careful, because you may get a document longer than you expected! If you wish to print only a selection, highlight it, click on File, Print (or right click and select Print), and be sure the Print Range is set for Selection.
  • Copying and pasting a selection into a word-processing document is possible, but the information tends to transfer in a table format, so lots of doctoring will be required.
