“Land Use 101: Understanding the Land Use Approval Process and How to Effectively and Ethically Participate”

The workshop features three panelists (an attorney representing the fictitious local government, developer, and public interest group) who, while referencing a hypothetical development project when appropriate, will comment on the land use approval process from the preparation of an application for a comprehensive plan amendment to, as time permits, the approval of a development order.  The discussion will be facilitated by a moderator.  It will explain the typical process involved in receiving land use approvals and how interested persons can effectively participate.  Panelists will also point out the ethical obligations of attorneys in engaging with local elected officials, state officials, staff, and represented persons outside of public hearings.
