Welcome to the Academic Success Department
Your Success Starts Here!
Florida Coastal’s Academic Success Department, located in suite 580, provides students with the guidance, support, and resources necessary to achieve success in law school. Our Academic Success Counselors are available to meet with students individually to implement study skills, review academic performance, discuss course selection, and provide feedback on practice essays and multiple choice questions. The Academic Success Department also offers extensive writing assistance ranging from general grammar, punctuation, and style issues to organization, rule synthesis, and legal analysis. Students are encouraged to schedule appointments, but Counselors are also available on a walk-in basis.
The department maintains a blog that covers a variety of helpful topics including pieces about our counselors, tips and strategies for success in school and on the bar exam, informative posts about current events and legal news, and much more. Check out the blog at http://fcsl.edu/blogs/academicsuccess/.
The Academic Success Department offers a variety of courses to help students throughout law school. Law School Foundations I & II help students master the skills necessary to succeed while in law school. The Academic Success Department also holds a variety of workshops each semester for second-semester and upper-level students who wish to further develop and improve their academic skills. When students are ready to begin preparing for the bar exam, the Academic Success Department is ready to help with that through the Advanced Florida Bar Studies course, the Multistate Bar Exam Strategies course, and a comprehensive Bar Coaching program. The Academic Success Department also has a series of video podcasts available with helpful suggestions for succeeding in law school: https://sharepoint.fcsl.edu/Docs/AS/Forms/AllItems.aspx. Please do not hesitate to contact the department with any questions you have.
Please schedule appointments with the Academic Success Counselor who teaches your course. If you do not have a current course with an Academic Success Counselor, then you may schedule an appointment with your preferred counselor. If you have no preference, you will be assigned to a counselor based on counselor availability and your need. To learn more about each of the members of the Academic Success team, please click here.
