Experiential Learning

According to a 2010 report, employers surveyed said practical legal work experience, also known as experiential learning, is the most marketable attribute on law graduates’ resumes. At Coastal Law, we are committed to providing numerous hands-on opportunities for students to acquire real world skills in a variety of high demand practice areas.

Whether serving Jacksonville’s indigent community in our live-client legal clinics or gaining experience through internship, externship or clerking positions advertised in our online career center (Symplicity), practical legal experience can provide a healthy competitive edge when job searches begin. Coastal Law recommends students acquire at least 400 hours of legal work experience while in school.

All clinics and externships qualify towards the mandatory 6 credits of experiential learning.

In addition the following simulation courses also count:

 ·         Alternative Dispute Resolution

 ·         Trial Practice Workshop

 ·         Trial Practice Workshop for Mock Trial Students

 ·         Appellate Advocacy

 ·         Appellate Oral Advocacy Skills
